Breaking the Spell of Loneliness and Building Wellbeing Together

Loneliness could be considered the antithesis of happiness and wellbeing. Leading research shows that the single most important action people can take to enhance wellbeing is to ‘connect’ with others. This offers a valuable clue as to the links between loneliness and wellbeing: as loneliness increases, wellbeing and happiness tends to fall, and vice versa. This is one reason why here at the Network of Wellbeing (NOW) we are proud to support the ‘Breaking The Spell of Loneliness Tour’ run by leading journalist George Monbiot and folk singer Ewan McLennan. This Tour has sought to directly address loneliness and build wellbeing by bringing people together to connect, share and enjoy inspiring music.

NOW’s Totnes Wellbeing Fund Welcomes Applications

Supporting small changes, which make a big difference to wellbeing – this is the aim of the Totnes Wellbeing Fund (TWF), set up three years ago by the Network of Wellbeing (NOW). We have a new round of funding available, and individuals and community groups with good ideas and projects to boost wellbeing in Totnes and adjacent parishes are invited to apply to the TWF by 6pm Friday 16th June 2017.

How can we create a happier world for ourselves and others? Here at the Network of Wellbeing (NOW) we co-hosted a talk from wellbeing pioneer Nic Marks on this topic in Exeter earlier this month. Nic shared his wealth of experience exploring this question, from his early work on the Happy Planet Index and the Five Ways to Wellbeing, to his more recent engagement with happiness in the workplace.
